![]() ![]() “A collective response to support our music venue whānau is as important as ever. Says - Taylor MacGregor of Save Our Venues. Once again, Aotearoa is faced with a crisis that requires us to work together to #saveourvenues We can’t wait to be back to playing shows on the mighty East Coast!”Įstablished by a group of passionate people from the New Zealand music scene in 2020 during the first wave of COVID, Save Our Venues assisted in raising almost half a million dollars in donations for live music venues around Aotearoa, helping ensure their survival and playing a vital role in strengthening communities. A gig to help them get back on their feet feels like the least we can do. These communities are used to mobilising, mucking in and fending for themselves, and don’t often ask for help, even in times of a devastating crisis. Says Lucy Suttor of Dick Move, “With 4/5 of us having been born or raised in Tairawhiti and Hawke’s Bay, this show is especially close to our hearts. However, these venues are playing a vital part in supporting their communities right now, and these gigs are to show that wider music whānau of Aotearoa are here to support these venues most affected. These venues are currently unable to trade at full capacity, if at all, and won’t be opening their doors for touring acts for quite some time. The Cabana, Paisley Stage, Common Room and Spaceship have all been devastated by Cyclone Gabrielle. For venues in the worst affected locations on the East Coast, our hearts go out to you. Over the last few weeks, the utter destruction affecting many in our communities has become apparent. Proceeds from the event will be shared with impacted music venues, with 20% of funds raised being donated to MusicHelps to support their vitally important music support services assisting music people experiencing hardship and illness, including a counselling service tailored to people who make music possible.įor those unable to attend this weekend's events, a Givealittle page has been set up so people around the motu can donate and help ensure the survival of venues most in need.
